Guide to Contouring

October 11, 2012 / 14 Comments

I found this on Pinterest and thought it was really cool! Contouring plays such a big part in my makeup regime for shoots and events. Scott Barnes, Mario Dedivanovic, Troy Jensen and all of the incredible makeup artists I have worked with over the years all use contouring to define and shape the face. It’s an amazing way to shape your nose, define your cheeks and create highlights and shadowing! Here’s a little step by step guide from theuntrendygirl.com!!

1. Feel the contours of your face. Apply the contour color directly underneath your cheekbone, extending from the center of your ear in a slightly downward motion. You will want to keep the contour application concise. If your brush feels too fluffy or large, pinch the bristles when you apply, this will give you more control.

2. Use a small eyeshadow brush to softly line both sides of the nose. If your nose is long, you may want to apply a little under the tip of your nose. Again, keep the applications concise.

3. Feel your jaw. You will apply your contour color below your jawbone, making sure not to apply any color to the actual bone. The point is to create a shadow below your jaw. If your jaw is large, you may bring the contour color up on either side of the chin. This will make your jaw appear less bold.

4. Blend your contour color into your hairline. Doing this helps make your face appear slimmer. Make sure to blend well into the hairline.

5. Although your colors may be dramatic, there should be no severe lines. Blend edges well.

Have you guys tried contouring? Give it a try and let me know what you think! Xo

Midweek Makeup: Winged Liner

October 10, 2012 / 12 Comments

One of my favorite makeup looks is the classic nude lip and winged liner combination. Sometimes less is more and a clean look with a dramatic cat eye is definitely the way to go if you want to make a subtle statement with your makeup.

Yes, you need a steady hand to apply a clean, neat stroke, but there are a couple of tricks that will help you get that defined look. First, use a pencil liner to lightly line the shape you want for the liner. This provides a base for the liquid liner to follow. Trust me, it really helps guide the liquid liner. Also, be sure to place your little finger on the cheek to keep your finger steady, and then slowly swipe the liner across the eye from the inner eye to the outer corner of the eyelid, and end with a flick.

Do you guys wear the winged look?

Midweek Makeup: Autumn Colors

September 26, 2012 / 7 Comments

Now that fall is officially here, it’s time to bring out the autumn colors, not just in your wardrobe, but your makeup too.

Experimenting with darker lip colors is an easy way to switch up your look for fall. If you’re used to wearing a nude lip, like I am, you should definitely test out some rich red or maroon shades and see what works for you. For the eyes try using browns, oranges and bronzes to create a smokey, warm look.

Midweek Makeup: Colorful Smokey Eye

Kim Kardashian Midweek Makeup Colorful Smokey Eye

This week I wanted to add a little Miami glam to my Midweek Makeup post!

Miami is all about bright colors; pinks, blues, greens and oranges… vibrant colors that really pop. I love a gorgeous smokey eye, and adding a pop of color to a traditional smokey-eye will really make your look stand out in the crowd.

Try picking two or three of your favorite colors and blending them in sections across the lid or create a layered look, using one color on the inner eye lid area, one across the main lid and one in the crease.

There are so many fun color combinations you can create to add a little Miami glam to your overall look. Xo
