Reggie, Khloe and I go Back to School

July 16, 2009 / 21 Comments

Reggie, Khloe and I visited a village designed for all of the miners. We had lunch and visited a school! Our season three finale aired the day before our visit so they were all big fans! We had no idea our show was even popular in Botswana! How crazy!?

Diamonds are Botswana’s Best Friend

July 16, 2009 / 70 Comments

The Diamond Empowerment Fund has brought us to Botswana to show us how
the diamond industry has changed the life of the Botswana people. I
used to assume after watching the movie Blood Diamonds that diamonds
were not acceptable to buy from Africa. However, it is the complete
opposite! When diamonds are purchased, the whole country can survive! In Botswana there used
to be 10 schools but the diamond industry has now funded 300 schools!

We went into the largest diamond mine! It was huge! The trucks they use
to carry the diamonds are 6 million dollars, and each tire is $70,000!
How crazy is that?! Look at how small we look in comparison to the tire!
We saw all the raw diamonds and the process they have to go through in
order to get them ready to be delivered to stores! Thank you DeBeers
for that amazing experience!

Day One in Botswana

July 15, 2009 / 24 Comments

After two flights and 21 hours we finally landed in Johannesberg. South Africa. We then hopped on another
45 minute flight to Botswana. I twittered that I was in South Africa and
Botswana, and the way I wrote it I guess made it sound like I didn’t know my geography!

Once we got into Botswana we dropped our bags off at the hotel and then
headed to a school for disabled children. We met some really amazing children
and Reggie brought them all footballs and taught them how to play
football. This facility is called the Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre and it helps rehabilitate children and care for
children as they are getting ready to pass away.

The looks on these
beautiful childrens’ faces as Reggie was playing football with them was
unexplainable. It was so touching. Reggie and Adidas donated a new rehab facility for the children to use!

Here are some pictures to better describe our day!
