Amirah: Hi Mario, my question is about brushes. How important do you think it is to have a set of expensive make up tools? Or what should you look for when investing in brushes?

Mario: I think your tools are very important in helping you achieve the look you desire. A set of about 10-12 brushes should do it. Brushes make blending shadows and colors easy. A great brush set to try is the one by BillyBbeauty.com

LadyJ: Thank you Kim and Mario for the make-up blog, I really appreciate it, I’m learning a lot from it! I have one simple question: 1. what is in your opinion, the name of the best product for a concealer to cover blemish prone scars (my tone is medium golden beige)? Thank you Kim and Mario!!!

Mario: Lady J - Blemish prone scars should probably be covered with a cream concealer. It’s hard to recommend an exact shade but if you need a very full coverage, try Derma Blend makeup. Just use it on spots and set with a little powder. For a cover-up with less coverage then Derma Blend, Laura Mercier’s secret concealer and Stila is great too.

Little: Hi Kim and Mario, I've tried every type of concealer (liquid,stick,mineral) and my dark circles still show through. What do you recommend? My face also has many pores, would a primer and foundation help smooth over my skin?

Mario: Hey Little, if you have many pores, definitely try a primer. I love the Smashbox primer - it really smooths the skin and helps makeup to stay on beautifully. Unfortunetely, dark circles are hereditary but to brighten that area up, use a shade slightly lighter than your skin. Try the Make Up For Ever lift concealer that I use on Kim and set it with translucent powder. In your case, the powder can have a little bit of light reflecting in it. Prescriptives, Estee Lauder, Stila, Mac all have great ones.

?rubylovespink23: I understand that the particular color of Beauty Tech concealer used on Kim is not right for everyone but I would really appreciate it to use as a reference because there are only 5 shades and it can only be purchased online. Thanks!

Mario: Rubylovespink - The Beauty Tech palette comes with 16 colors in it. The color that I use on Kim is D4W.

?Courtney: Any recommendations on skincare when wearing daily makeup? I heard you say Kiehls. What other products are good to keep the skin nice and healthy? Can you recommend things in a range of prices? Thanks so much! Great videos!

Mario: Hey Courtney, skin is so important in and of itself and also to help make your makeup look better. I like lots of different skincare. Right now, for normal to dry skin, I’m using the Kiehl’s Ultra facial moisturizer and for more oily skin I’m using the Vitamin C+ Ginseng serum moisturizer from GIELLA.com. It’s really light-weight and smells so fresh. For less-expensive brands, I love Olay and Neutrogena products. Try to make sure and exfoliate about twice a week (the St. Ives apricot scrub does the job) and use SPF! I also love Peter Thomas Roth, Dr, Brandt, DDF, Clarins, etc. Another great less-expensive moisturizer is Cetaphill. It works!

Mario: Rachael, the bronzer is Suntan Matte by Smashbox - so good!
Rachael: For the translucent powder what colors did you use?
Mario: Laura Mercier loose setting powder in beige.
Rachael says: What kind of moisturizer did you use?
Mario: Rachael my love, in video one, you can hear and see that I used Kiehl’s ultra facial moisturizer.
Rachael: What kind of loreal mascara did you use on her and can you give me any tips on how to put mascara on?
Mario: In the video, I mention that I use L’oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. Curl lashes, then apply.
Rachael says: What color Giorgio Armani foundation did you use on her. what kind were all those brushes and where can i get them. And could you tell us all the colors you used on her face, eyes, and everywhere else. I really love this look a lot and i loved to know plz.
Mario: I mixed the number 7 and 5 foundations for Kim. As far as brushes go, I use hundreds of them and can’t name every brand. I’ve been collecting brushes for years and a lot of them come from art stores, etc.

Dreamergal830: Hi Mario!! I love your work!! I remember seeing the vegas cover and thinking kim has never looked better! Anyways, I have really dark circles & my concealer always creases. What tips/products would u recommend to avoid this from happening? Thanks a million!

Mario: Thanks dreamergal830… Again, if your concealer is creasing, set it lightly with translucent loose powder. I really like the Stila and Laura Mercier loose setting powders right now.

?Brit: HOW TO MINIMIZE UNDER-EYE BAGS??
Mario: I've always had the extra baggage under my eyes since i've been younger so it's not just "sleepy-eye" .. What kind of tricks can I do with make-up to minimize my shopping bags? :)
Hey Brit, sleep usually helps a lot! LOL. To minimize the bags, use an eye cream first, then use a liquid concealer after. I find that if I apply blush higher on the cheek bone, it reduces the look of bags and circles too.

Mario: Hi Kristen, I LOVE Stila brushes, Bobby Brown, LORAC, Vincent Longo and of course my new favorite - the BillyBbeauty brushes - great quality and the handles are shorter which in my opinion makes it easier to work with them.

ComeOn: Thanks for the videos, Kim and Mario. Kim, You are perfect! Mario,?1. Is there a process when its time to retouch the lipstick and lipgloss. When I try to do that it ends up looking dirty and muddy.?2. I have dry skin and my makeup ends up looking dry at the end every time. Are there any tricks to have the makeup look dewy? Thank you.

Mario: ComeOn, Im not sure why it’s looking dirty and muddy. Make sure that your lips are exfoliated before you use lip products. For your skin, use a very emollient moisturizer and try a liquid foundation and only use powder on the t-zone. Don’t apply powder on the cheek area. There are also tons of products and high lighters that you can add to the skin to give the appearance of more dewy skin. Revlon SkinLights is a good one or the Stila Illuminating finishing powder in gold is great too.

Mario: Hey Daneen, a great pale lip combo you can try is the photo finish lipstick in Elegant by Smashbox and the lip enhancing gloss in Sand also by Smashbox. Also, MAC Dazzleglass in Sugarrimmed.

Gaby: Hi Mario, Just wondering, what do you recommend as good products for a tan nude lip? Should you use lip liner and lipstick+gloss? I'm about two shades lighter than Kim, olive skin tone. (KIM-you're gorgeous! So beautiful, I wish I looked half as pretty!)

Mario: Gaby, a great pale lip combo you can try is the photo finish lipstick in Elegant by Smashbox and the lip enhancing gloss in Sand also by Smashbox. You can use a pencil too - try gingerroot crème stick pearl liner by MAC.

Darkeyes: Hi Mario, I have very oil skin and I would like to know what you feel is the best primer out there that would keep my makeup in place and control the shine. What else do you use to keep shine at bay? Thanks Mario!

Mario: Hey Darkeyes, I love the smashbox primer a lot. Sometimes, if there is a lot of shine, I use a product that is made specifically for that. There are a lot out there. One of them is called MakeUnder Transparent Coverage (Matte). You can google that to find out where to purchase.

I decided to try out my lighter eye make up look. And don’t laugh, I want your opinion! I usually ask my sisters these sorts of questions, but I want to be able to bounce things off you, too! …

I am sooo loving Lorac makeup right now!

I recently tried their new glam rocks pigment shadow in their color called “metallic pearl.” I used the Mac Black Zoom mascara which I love! And then I added this Lorac perfectly lit powder called “spotlight!” It gives you a shimmer all over! I love it!

Do you guys like the lighter eye makeup look or the smokey eye look better on me? (I can handle criticism, but be nice!)

Here is my analysis of your answer:

Legs
If you have great legs, show them off more! Wear shorts and skirts on warmer days. On cooler days wear cute minis with awesome tights and a cropped trench-coat that doesn't cover your best assets!

Hair
Those of you who have been blessed with great hair should probably spend a little extra time making sure it looks its best and resist the urge to throw it back in a pony tail! If your hair is gorgeous long, I would think twice before chopping it off (even if it's the trend-of-the-moment). You can reflect trends with your clothes, shoes and accessories. It doesn't have to be with your awesome hair.

Feet
While the world might look more kindly upon you if you went through life walking on your hands, open-toed shoes, pedicures, flip-flops, sandals and great shoes all around are the best way to show off great feet!

Curves
Hey, there's nothing wrong with wearing a tight sweater now-and-again; or a pencil skirt that hugs close to all the right places. You know how to show off those awesome curves! Now do it!

Eyes
Pay more attention to your eye makeup and grooming (tweezers are your friend!). Consider getting your lashes and brows tinted a shade darker to make your eyes pop more.

Arms
Sleeveless shirts, tanks and even t-shirts show off toned arms. In the winter, consider wearing long sleeves with tighter, stretchy arms, to give the same effect.

Hands
Don't leave the house without your manicure looking stunning and always have a good hand cream in your purse to combat dryness during the day! Your hands will thank you and your friends (and boyfriends.. hmmm!?) will notice!

Skin
When you're blessed with great skin, it's easy to take it for granted. But remember to keep it moisturized and exfoliated to keep it glowing and youthful-looking. Don't put too much makeup on during the day as to not mess with perfection!

Cheekbones
Blush much? Try it, but don't over do it. Apply a subtle color to the apples of your cheeks for a natural, daytime look.

Smile
Got great choppers? Make sure they're gleaming white! There are some great over-the-counter whitners that are easy to use. Have great lips? A subtle, dewy lip gloss must be in your purse at ALL TIMES. And remember, lips need exfoliating too! Easy trick: brush them lightly with your toothbrush. It sloughs off the dead skin from your lips.

Nose
If you have a great nose, then consider yourself lucky! Ha!

Okay, this is going to be a long post because I absolutely love makeup! And I mix so many different kinds.

Here we go...

Just so everyone knows, my make up artist Stephen Moleski has pretty much taught me everything I know.

Remember that everyone's color is different so please ask someone at the store where you purchase your makeup what works for you. Even if you think we have the same skin coloring, our tones can be different and I don't want anyone to waste money on concealer or foundation colors that aren't absolutely perfect!

STEP 1: I always start with a clean face. Then I put on Intuit 'Photo Shoot.' Intuit is a great company and I love the names of their products. Photo Shoot is a make up primer. I put it on after my moisturizer, which basically is like a moisturizer that will fill the pours on your face which will help set the foundation so it will last longer.

STEP 2: I use Cle De Peau concealer stick (it's super expensive, but works for me). It comes in two colors, I use Ocre, which is the darker of the two. I also use M.A.C. concealer (which comes in a little pot) if I run out of Cle de Peau. Everyone's color is different but I use NW25. I put the concealer under my eyes because I absolutely hate dark circles! I also use concealer to cover up blemishes!

STEP 3: After I put the concealer on I put on Make Up Forever liquid foundation. I mix one pump of No. 5 and two pumps of No. 4. I also have No. 3 for the winter time when I am really pale. I mix the foundations to get the perfect color. I blend them with the coolest make up brush. Its the M.A.C. brush No. 180.

STEP 4: Since I hate dark circles, after the foundation, I put on a little more concealer just under my eyes since the foundation makes it darker under my eyes. I use a lighter concealer from M.A.C. NW30 in a little lipstick tube-looking container and I select 'moisture cover.'

STEP 5: To set the foundation I lightly brush on with a big powder brush M.A.C. Select Sheer Pressed Powder NC 30, then to make me a little tanner I lightly brush on M.A.C. Powder NW 45.

STEP 6: Now its blush time! I'm obsessed with blush! I use a color called Gingerly to warm me up and give me a little color and then add a pink color called Cheek to give me rosey cheeks. I just started getting into cream blush and find it works a lot better and lasts a lost longer.

STEP 7: Time for the eyes! My favorite part! I first put down a M.A.C. Paint pot in a light color that matches my skin called Painterly. I just use my finder and put enough onto cover the lid. This creamy shadow makes it so that the powder eye shadow does not crease. Like, if you wear make up all day you will see that the eye shadow begins to crease and get oily, but if you put this paint color down first it won't! I love cream shadow and use the color cream pots too! I love colored shadow; so it depends on the color depend of shadow I plan to wear: If it's black smokey I use Carbon by M.A.C.; if its grey smokey I use Knight Divine or Print; if it's bown smokey I use Embark by M.A.C. I love a fresh shimmery look as well and use M.A.C. Pigment called Tan. Its so pretty! I love bright colors for eye make up! I absolutely love Make Up Forever and don't think anyone does pigment colors better than them. So again, depending on what color you feel like wearing, go look at Make Up Forever's colors to choose from.

STEP 8: I always use black pencil eyeliner. My favorite is Stilla black pencil.

STEP 9: Now its mascara time! Putting on mascara completes the look, but I have it when I mess up and get it on my eye lid and mess up the eye shadow. I used to use Lancome Hypnose, and still do, but I recently started to use M.A.C. Zoom mascara -- which is amazing! I take my time and put coat after coat. I love to layer mascaras so I will probably start with the M.A.C. Zoom and then put Lancome Hypnose on top. I always use a seperator brush to seperate my lashes. I am completely clueless on how to put false lashes on, so I only wear them for photo shoots sometimes.

STEP 10: The final touch is putting on lipstick! I usually use M.A.C. Lipliner called Stripdown (I use it very lightly) and a lipstick called Angel and put Nars Turkish Delight lipgloss on top. Or for my very nude matte lip I wear Nars Belle De Jour and I line my lips first with M.A.C. Subculture lipliner.
