I Give a Damn!

Give a Damn Campaign,’ a campaign launched by Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund that aims to educate and engage the straight community to support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality!! You can watch the video here.

I have many close friends who are homosexual and they encounter discrimination and hatred every day! I think sometimes as straight people we take equality for granted because we don’t come up against the same barriers many gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people do. I want to ask you all to give a damn. Give a damn that people around you are being victimized simply for being who they are. Give a damn that young adults are ending their lives because of the bullying they are subjected to. All you have to do is give a damn.

Moving in the Right Direction

We like to consider our nation one that promotes equality. But isn’t
that a little hypocritical considering there are so many people in this
country who are denied the most basic civil rights? It shouldn’t matter
if you are straight, gay, bisexual, black, white, rich, poor… every citizen
deserves to be treated as an equal.

My good friend Joe Francis visited Washington DC this weekend to take part in the National Equality March
and marched with thousands of gay rights activists all standing up for
gay rights and rallying to demand that President Obama stand by what he
promised this weekend at the Human Rights Campaign.

I think what President Obama has said he will do to move gay
rights forward is such a huge step in the right direction. It is a
breath of fresh air to see a leader be so open minded, modern and
understanding of people of all lifestyles. I just hope he stands by his
word. Equal rights for everyone!!!!!

Shame on You, California!

Today the California
Supreme Court decided to uphold Prop 8, outlawing gay marriage in
California. This really makes me sad. I thought we were more forward
thinking than this, and I’m disappointed in the Supreme Court for being
so closed minded. Everyone… gay, straight, bisexual, transgendered,
EVERYONE should have equal rights to marry who they want to. I have
many gay friends and all I want is for them to be happy, yet this is
just another obstacle in their way. Now they must continue fighting to
be granted a basic civil right that many people take for granted. Shame
on you, California! We must all continue to fight the h8!
