While I was at the Today Show this morning I saw a story about a Memphis high school where 90 young female students were either pregnant or have given birth this year! I just couldn’t believe this and I find it so sad and disturbing. It seems that shows like Teen Mom are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls. The kids from these shows are all over the news, even on the covers of magazines, and have been become almost like celebrities, but girls, these are not people you should idolize!

When I think back to when I was 16, there is no way I would even have considered having a baby. That thought wouldn’t even have entered my head. Having a baby is one one of the biggest, and most life-changing decisions a person can make and while I’m not saying that no teen is in the position to raise a child, having a baby so young shouldn’t be seen as the trendy thing to do.

Girls, please, think very carefully before you make these kind of decisions. Talk to your family, friends, teachers, and most of all, be careful.

kim i agree w. everything you said
expect this ” while I’m not saying that no teen is in the position to raise a child, ”

no teenager is responsible and mentally mature enough to take care of a child

    babies cant be having babies.

im really glad you posted this, maybe some girls will actually think about what you said after hearing it from someone they look up to. the world is far too overcrowded to be bringing in more babies when youre just a baby yourself! i swear having a baby is a fashion accessory to some girls and thats just not fair, its a human life not a hand bag!

its called birth control people and if you got to planned parenthood its free

thanks for the great message kim im glad that people are noticing the horrible trend thats happening in this country.

I just wanted to say that I agree with you about the whole teen pregnancy thing. Its sad. I mean its babies raising babies. But what you don’t know is that the rate of teen births have actually decreased since the show has started, which is a good thing. (I read the article on Yahoo, you should check it out). It has decreased for all races.

Thank you Kim!!!!!!!!!! I work in a family shelter in the NYC area and the amount of girls that are under 18 with children is just inmense and have no help at all some of these girls have not even finished the 9th grade. Real awareness needs to be brought to this topic.

I think Teen Mom is a great show if I had seen this back then when I was 15 maybe I would have never gotten pregnant. But I do agree that this girls should not be celebrities. shows and magazines shouldn’t talk about their private life’s making them famous. Some girls might want to get pregnant just to be famous. You the celebrity should try to do something about it. I think if you put your mind to it you can do it. Go Kim! I will be cheering for you if you do it.

Excellent message Kim! I can’t stand that MTV has made being a teen mom a “cool” thing to do! Not only do teen girls need to protect themselves from pregnancy, but they should also protect themselves from disease!

You are the best rolemodel Kimmie!

I Agree that tv-shows like “16 and pregnant” makes girls in my age (13+)
make it seems so easy and cool to be a teenage mom,but the dossent shows
what thoes girls have to give up like the fun teenage life to be a teen mom, the shows can make girls thinck like omg, that seems so easy
maby i`ll should try it and then
they make the biggest and worst decision in there`s life, maby they lost there friends, family and got no support and 0 money!.

That you talk about it on your own blog, with your own words of how you see it makes me so proud of you Kimmie!,im a fan of you and love you!.

Btw: you should do a big campaign for “say no to teen pregnacy”,

this is such a great message Kim you are such an inspiration to so many young girls out there and hopefully they listen to what you have to say. Having a baby is no joke and some of these teens are treating it as the latest accecorie or trend and that is not the case at all. Even if a girl decides to get an abortion or give up the baby for adoption they will have to live with the guilt of the choice they made and maybe have to go to therapy because of depression or regret. I really do hope alot of these teens listen to you I wish more celebrities would campain against teen pregnancy since you guys are such a big ispiration for so many young people.
