While I was at the Today Show this morning I saw a story about a Memphis high school where 90 young female students were either pregnant or have given birth this year! I just couldn’t believe this and I find it so sad and disturbing. It seems that shows like Teen Mom are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls. The kids from these shows are all over the news, even on the covers of magazines, and have been become almost like celebrities, but girls, these are not people you should idolize!

When I think back to when I was 16, there is no way I would even have considered having a baby. That thought wouldn’t even have entered my head. Having a baby is one one of the biggest, and most life-changing decisions a person can make and while I’m not saying that no teen is in the position to raise a child, having a baby so young shouldn’t be seen as the trendy thing to do.

Girls, please, think very carefully before you make these kind of decisions. Talk to your family, friends, teachers, and most of all, be careful.

I’m sure she did- if ANYONE has the right amount of influence, it’s Kim!!!

        • lulu123078  |   Posted on Jan 19th, 2011

and how did kim get famous btw?

          • shaunaxx1xx  |   Posted on Jan 19th, 2011

if you do not have anything nice to say about kim dont sign up to the site, and for your info kim is famous because she is a beautiful person inside and out. she is an inspiration to the young women of today and yes people make mistakes like kim has but look at the woman she is now.

im sorry to ramble on but your comment really bugged me.

          • fort  |   Posted on Jan 20th, 2011

Shauna I missed the part where you answered the question. It’s a nice message, but entirely hypocritical. Kim is idolized by people like you. How did she first get to be famous?

          • onetwothreefour  |   Posted on Jan 20th, 2011

she didnt answer the question because this blog post is an absolute joke.
we all know how kim got famous.
no offence to kim, im sure she is a really nice person, but i agree this is completely hypocritical.
kims reason for fame is hardly something that you want young girls to be exposed to but they are and still love her.
the girls on teen mom or 16 and pregnant do not glorify teen pregnancy in anyway, if anything it has put me off having children all together.
these 16 year olds are strong beautiful girls, overcoming a massive hurdle in their life, and some of them with such grace.
i think these girls are definetly the type of people to look up to, and i think it is extremely rude and disrespectful for someone to slam them and say they should not be idolised and that they are almost “celebrities.”
so what if they are, watch any interview and they will tell you that this is not what they wanted for themselves.
they are more deserving of fame and public respect than some.

            something to think about.

i dont understand how you can say teen mom glorifies teen pregnancy… all those chicks are struggling teen moms, mostly white trash. None of them are living perfect lives full of wealth an eduaction and unconditional happiness. they are all struggling in one way or another wether its with their baby daddy, bills, a job, school, parents, even just day to day. To say it glorifies is a total misuse of the word and lack of understanding of the show. I commend you for your efforts, but dont form an attack on an entire show, especially one which shows how rough teen motherhood is. teen mom shines a much needed light on how tough teen pregnancy is. does this reeeally sound logic…for a girl to think “kim kardashian wrote a post so im not gonna have sex”.. no. its not realistic. more programs need to be dedicated to young girls to help them know their worth. thats teh only way this epidemic will stop.

You have got to be freaking kidding me. I am now 36 years old and I have 21 year old son, I had him in Jr. High School, and as far as I remember People Magazine didn’t pay me to do a COVER story for them, and I sure wasn’t offered a tv show, and explain to me how these girls are “losing” their homes, they are not even old enough to sign a contract for a house, so it is the parents as far as that crap goes. You know I have been with my husband for 23 years now and still no People Magazine cover or anything, These girls should suffer because laying down and having fun and getting pregnant and having a baby is not supposed to be fun at 15 and 16 years old, So yeah life sucks for them and it should, it is not a glorified thing to be a teenage mom and it should not be pertrade as iif it is.
And you don;t know a post from someone like Kim could possibly have an impact on a young girl, because that stupid show sure is apparently having a very negative affect on them. Why have celebrities talk about breast cancer, smoking or anything else if no one is going to listen to it.
But I will say everyone on here that states that this show is not a joke should have come and lived my life.
Oh but if People is reading this, maybe they should do a REAL story about teen moms that have made this work no matter what the sacriifice…….

im sorry but i found ur comment to b very offending.
i am a 17 year old girl and i have a one year old son and kims comment was very offending to me..honestly who is she to b talking?? shes famous because she made a sex video with ray j..should we idolize her?? does she think its good for young women to see how she got famous and then ry to follow her path?? uhhh i think not. teenage mothers dont have it easy and i dont think the show glorifys it at all…unless u are a teenage mother or have been u dont know how difficult it can b. i think young women should look up to them just as they have kim..not to completely follow in there footsteps but see how they have over come a huge obsticle in there life and push foward..to see them take responsibility for there actions..should they go out and get pregnant to b like them no.. but they shouldnt go out and make a sex video n then pose for playboy to b like kim either..if anything i would want my young sister to watch teen mom to see how difficult it can b…not keeping up with the kardashians where all u see is kim date a bunch of people and b a slut. personally id rather have them idolize the teenage mothers and what they have over come instead of some women whos just good for taking her clothes off.
shes a hypocrit and needs to learn some manners… she doesnt do anything… has absolutely no talent but being able to unzip her pants!

      • kardashian love  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2011

teen mom may not look like it glorifies teen pregnancy on the show. but these girls get paid thousands of dollars to put show their situations. the show does a good job of showing teens what hardships they could go through, but it also shows that you can potentially end up on a tv show and get paid thousands of dollars each year to be a teen mom.

I’m sorry this is probably the most idiotic thing I have ever heard come out of her mouth. Kim sorry not a fan but isnt that the pot calling the kettle black? I know your not trying to be someones idol. I agree with alot of these comments about how you got famous…………you are a another no talent Paris Hilton. You sell yourself in a legal way. Your clothes are horrible………your show is so stupid……like, oh my god BIBLE! …………..your credit card was a joke! I mean really you have nothing to say about anybody. Come out of your little bubble and look around you. You might just find yourself a purpose in life. All that youve shown that you know how to do is stand there and look pretty………..um lets see playboy……..insert your foot in your mouth. Teen Mom is probably the best birth control around .

      • hawaiigirl579  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2011

I totally agree.it makes me sick to watch Chris pimp out all her kids on national tv.Theyve literally made a career out of being superficial.I mean besides a nice rack, and a bottomless bank account, whats so great about these people? And for the record, if it wasnt for Ray J, noeone would even know who kim kardashian is.

        • really.......  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2011

You know haw, thats a good point. I agree with you on that. The whole things a joke. Im not being mean but at least their father earned his notoriety.( Even their stepfather has.) He was a big time lawyer and worked very hard. It just seems to me if anything their exploiting their fathers name to cash in. Its kind of unsettling. Even Kris herself. Hollywood really seems to be losing class very quickly.

    • monkeysuit  |   Posted on Oct 14th, 2011

Really what about the way her young sisters are allowed to dress? one of them is a bikini model don’t you think that will draw the wrong kind of attention from young males filled with hormones?

I read about this school and it’s pretty sad. But ever since MTV started airing 16 & Pregnant, the overall percentage of teen pregnancy has dropped.
I believe these shows tell you how hard it can be to be a mom at a young age. Half of them don’t graduate high school and most don’t go to college.
I know that in my graduating class about 7 girls were pregnant or had a child before senior year. That’s how I avoided getting pregnant, not to mention my mom taught me what could happen if I did. That’s what these girls need, parents to sit down with them and explain the consequences, not say it and leave it alone.
I know that many young girls look up to you and they need someone like that to tell them to wait until they’re older.
Thank you for getting the word out!

    • Chris Bommer  |   Posted on Jan 19th, 2011

the show in no way shows “how hard it can be to be a mom at a young age.” Maybe at first glance it does. But what many people dont know is that these woman get paid in the 100,000 dollar range for doing an episode. The parents constantly are helping them with things. My mother had me when she was 18. She single handedly raised me with no help from anyone. These girls always have someone helping them, when the harsh reality is that most young people who have kids, dont have people to provide for them, so they are stuck working 9-5 at mc donalds trying to support their baby.

      • mary-anne_  |   Posted on Jan 19th, 2011

yea, i kind a agree, besides When you see the girls level, i mean Do you really want to be them?

      • angel_baby  |   Posted on Jan 19th, 2011

I guess it depends on how one would watch 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom.
I know I have a sister that is completely turned off by anything that has to do with kids and having them. She saw how hard it is and how most don’t have diplomas and very rarely go to college. Yes, I know most don’t have the family support that some girls on the show had, I’ve seen first hand how hard it can be. That’s why I have no kids now. Seeing people you know pop out babies every few months can deter you from that.
I believe that parents should watch the show with their daughters and explain how it can drastically change their lives.
I applaud Kim for speaking about this.

CHRIS YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. IDK WHERE YOU GET YOUR FIGURES FROM. BUT I USED TO BE A PRODUCTION ASSISTANT FOR MTV AND SEASON ONE OF 16 AND PREGNANT. THOSE GIRLS DONT MAKE ANYWHERE CLOSE TO $100,000 AN EPISODE. TRY $20,00 FOR A SEASON. AND THATS PUBLIC RECORDS TOO SO FEEL FREE TO DIG A LITTLE. YOU ARE SO WRONG ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY.

      • btmerva  |   Posted on Jan 20th, 2011

so what if they get paid. They probably need the money more than you and I do. Stick to the facts people. The fact is that these stories are real! Bottom line! They are not glorified. If I where to be a teenager I would NOT want to be in their situation that’s the message I’ve gotten. Just because Kim Kardashian says they are “glamorized” doesn’t mean it’s a fact. The fact is that they go through hardships like legal custody, family fights, court battles, etc etc how is that glamorous?

GLAMOROUS IS THE LIFE STYLE THAT THE KARDASHIANS HAVE AND GET PAID FOR THEIR SHOWS!!

      • sam.callahan  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2011

Thank you Chris, I wish when I had my son at the age of 14 I had it so bad that I was taking 100,000 dollar checks to the bank because it was so hard, it was very hard but you know what me and my husband (yes the daddy of my son) have been together for 23 years and we are very proud to call ourselves parents and it has been such a struggle. This show has helped no one and nothing. I don’t allow that crap in my house for my 16 year old daughter to watch. Because I can promise you if she got pregnant she would not end up on People’s magazine every week with a sad sop story. It is supposed to be hard that is why you are supposed to be an adult before you have babies, it is supposed to be hard and struggling when you are a freaking teenager. This stupid show should be taken off the freaking air.

I bought a Kardashian Kookie and asked for a pic with him (a family was already taking a pic with him) ..after the pic we walked out and as were going to the car Bruce was walking right behind us to his car..I had to say something (and I remembered in Kardashain Konfidental I read Khloe talk about what fans say) so I was soo nervous and turned around and said “I love ur family” lol lol!! and he said ‘ thank you so do I” it was soo funny. anyway it was the best day of my life (besides my daughter being born) lol . How did u feel when U met Kim?? ur soo lucky!!

  7. kayt_0001031  |   Posted on Jan 19th, 2011

Thanks for bringing awareness to this situation, Kim.

My sister had her first child at 17 and her second at 19. She was an unfit mother, and her first child has been in my parent’s custody for the last 9 years. Her second child is with his father and we have been unable to see him for the last 5 years. It changed all of our lives so drastically, and growing up was very difficult because of it. Teenage girls must not only think about the impact having a baby so young will have on themselves, but also the impact it will have on their families. I don’t believe mine will ever recover.

  8. brigitteloveskim  |   Posted on Jan 19th, 2011

I agree completely, Kim! Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, etc. are showing teenage girls that it’s cool and fun to be pregnant, and that you may even find fame out of it. It’s actually really upsetting when you think about it. Mistakes DO happen, but they shouldn’t be broadcast on MTV.

    • cg526  |   Posted on Jan 20th, 2011

HOW CAN U SAY THAT?? WE SEE HOW BAD THESE GIRLS HAVE IT..CANT PAY BILLS, CANT GO TO SCHOOL, ETC AND THEY ALL SAY THEY WOULD DO IT DIFFERENTLY. HOW THE HELL IS THE SHOW MAKING IT LOOK COOL?? NONE OF THESE GIRLS ARE FAMOUS FAMOUS. THE ONLY ONE SEMI-FAMOUS IS THE ONE WHO BEAT UP HER BF AND THATS B.C AMERICA ISNT USED TO SEEING REVERSED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. HAVE WE HEARD MUCH FROM HER SINCE THAT? NO B/C NO1 REALLY CARES, NO1 REALLY THINKS THESE GIRLS ARE CELEBRITIES. AND THEY ALL SAY THEY REGRET WHAT THEY DID. NOT 1 OF THEM SAID ITST THE BEST DECISION THEYVE MADE SOOOOOOOOOOOO I ASK U AGAIN HOW DOES THE SHOW MAKE PREGNANCY SEEM COOL?? THEY DONTE VEN GET PAID AS MUCH AS YOU ARE ALL IMPLYING. TRY A COUPLE THOUSAND AN EPISODE. CELEBRITIES GET HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS. NOT A COUPLE LOL

      • thebestest  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2011

you girls supporting that crap show sure yell a lot…or cannot figure out how to turn off the caps…if this is yelling perhaps you should join the two psycho teen moms in some anger management.
