Mr. Richardson is quite the genius. He knows what he’s doing! There’s a whole subculture of Bettie Page lookalikes, wannabe’s and idol worshippers out there. They dress, walk and act as they feel the character Ms. Page portrayed (based on her portfolio) would have. You can find them at Rockabilly concerts, swing dance events, and I’m assuming, S&M and B&D events throughout the globe.
What Terry Richardson did here was pit Ms. Kardashian as one such Bettie Page-ite. However, with the canvas he had to work with (that being her royal Kimness), he had a gigantic “leg-up” on all the others. Save for the bangs (or lack thereof), Kim makes a beyond impeccable Bettie Page, and I look forward to seeing whether he rode out the theme further in the other pictures, once they’re published.
Page is a terrific muse for Kardashian, and I think it’s great she dove in with vigor!!
(BTW, this is not to diminish or besmerch all the other Bettie Page-a-bees out there; their ghoulish or girl-next-door interpretations are always welcome as well!)
