I just saw on CNN that the Prime Minister of Haiti says it’s possible
that hundreds of thousands of people may have died in yesterday’s
earthquake!!! It’s just so sad. We know we can’t prevent these kinds of
natural disasters, but that’s the scariest thing about them… they
come without warning and these poor people just have no way of
escaping. I’ve seen a lot of people Twittering about it and I think
it’s really important to spread awareness about how we can help the
victims, their families and anyone affected by the disaster. It’s times
like this that social media can make a real difference and we can ALL
do something to help.

There are many ways to donate to the relief efforts and help the millions of people affected by this devastating earthquake. MSNBC has a complete list, so take a look and please donate. Think about all the text messages you’ll send today… one of them can make a real difference!

  • You can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 (Charged to your phone bill.) to the Red Cross relief efforts and/or go to http://www.redcross.org to donate to the International Response Fund.
  • Go HERE to donate to UNICEF’s Haiti relief fund
  • Text “Yele” to 501501 to donate $5 to the Haiti relief efforts (charged to your phone bill.)

Praying for everyone in Haiti right now!!!!

  1. As you said,”It’s times like this that social media can make a real difference & we can ALL do something to help.”Can you plz respond to me w even a blurb encouraging SCU students 2 donate 2 the Haitian people as my efforts haven’t been very successful thx

  2. Unrelated to Haiti, but relative to children: I voted to help Gwendolyn Strong Foundation (GSF) win $1M from Chase Community Giving–GSF has pledged to spend 100% of the winning donation on strictly cure-based research for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

  3. SMA, a common genetic disease, SMA paralyzes its victims and is terminal–babies diagnosed with this condition generally do not live to see their 2nd birthday without medical intervention (breathing and feeding tubes, ventilators, and lots more).

  4. Frighteningly, many parents believe they are bringing home a perfectly healthy child until the symptoms start to show–1 in 40 people carry the deficient gene.

If not for SMA, we would be celebrating my daughter’s 2nd birthday today.

  5. Will you vote for Gwendolyn Strong Foundation (GSF) to win $1M from Chase Community Giving, too? Thanks and congratulations on your new nephew. :)

  6. How much did you donate Kim? From what we hear you charge a lot for your appearances. Sandra Bullock donated one mil. I wish I was a celebrity so I could donate that amount and as well be there in person to give support to the much needed. I donated $100.

  9. Check out this great web-site that will benefit Doctors Without Borders in Haiti. The quilt I donated from my shop @craftygirl05 has already sold!

  10. Kim, you’ve done an incredible job raising awareness and funds for the Haiti cause. As you probably have heard, there have been devastating floods in Pakistan that have affected millions of people. Many communities are left with no food, water or homes. Although the situation may not be as high profile as that of Haiti, I was wondering if you could extend the same help in raising awareness for this cause.
