I was watching the news and saw this Afghan woman, Farida Bayat, who is running for office. She gets death threats every day simply because she is a woman running for one of the nine provincial council seats set aside for women. The news story also mentioned that women in Afghanistan have been jailed for being raped because it is considered committing adultery! So shocking and sad. I hate how women are viewed. I really commend Farida for wanting to change
the way women are viewed and being brave enough to take a stand!

  1. i feel the samw as u women all over should b treated equal

  2. the women in Afganistan do me so sorry

  3. actually kim, in america, muslims are probably the most hated.
and afghan is a muslim country. (ofcourse you already know that)
but what u said about women going to jail for being raped is absolutely false.
the truth is that the media makes up stuff to mak

  4. e these countries look bad here.
but the truth is, you do lose respect from people when u get raped.
because they are just really judgmental.
i don’t know why it is like that.
but when women get raped, everyone in the person’s family or outside doesn’t get

  5. I AGREE KIM. NO ONE SHOULD BE TREATED THIS WAY. AFGANISTAN WOMEN ARE VERY BRAVE TO LITERALLY SACRIFICE THERE LIFE FOR JUSTICE.

  6. respect because they just blame it on the woman.
its so sexist but what can we do?
our religion is just so strict, that people are just crazy in these countries like afghan, pakistan, and all of those other muslim coutries.

  7. I think u need to be really careful about how u word things kim firstly ‘how women are viewed in afganistan’ by who? A select group plz state that. As for comments that women are treatly badly in muslim countries it is upsetting and ridiculous.

  8. kim and all,
I was born in afghanistan and raised in US. afghanistan might be a war worn country. However, its FACT that Afghanistan has more politican females then ANY country in the world. we are brave and fear no one but GOD.

  9. I grew up in both the middle and irl/uk coz I am mixed race and quite honestly i am sick of the way muslim men are painted in the media. Yes there are those who have extreme views which is awful for those women to endure, but that does not extend to 6mill

    • Islam gets an unfair rap in western media, but it’s hard to dispute the fact that women get a pretty bad deal in most nations under Sharia law. I don’t think it’s ethnocentric to be critical of their human rights abuses, as imperfect as western culture is.

  10. That is madness!!! I don’t understand that form of thinking, but God bless Farida and all the females.
