Sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying, but usually when someone says something is federal law it means everyone in the Country must follow it, so I assumed that was what you meant.

There are 21 states where there are NO laws regarding being allowed off to vote, so almost half the people in the Country are not in a state where their employer has to let them off to vote.

Those that are usually have to do something special, like in CA they have to turn in an application to their employer 48 hrs before election day.

Ok Mary let me clarify what I meant by federal law:
If your polling place is open 7:00am to 6:00 pm and you work 7:00am to 4:00pm, you're emplopyer must let you leave at 3:00pm because BY LAW you have to have at least 3 hours (in California) to vote. And yes, IT IS punishable by FEDERAL LAW if you deny your employee this right. State laws may be different (I am only sure about California but I'm sure each state has SOME kind of law regarding voters rights), but if an employer violates this law, an employee can take it to federal Supreme Court.

Sorry I am just now seeing this or I would have said something sooner. This is not really true. It is not a federal law, it is a state law, and in some states it is not the law at all.

Every state has its own laws concerning this so you need to look into your states laws to see what they are.

In most cases they only require your job to give you a few hours off and with the lines here expected to reach as much as 6-7 hours at peak time, having a 2 extra hours to vote may not be enough depending on where you live.

I live in GA and the law here says as long as the polls are opened for 2 hrs of consecutive hrs outside of your normal shift time then they do not have to let you off. The polls here open at 7, and my husband works from 9-6, so they don't have to let him off. They were saying that they expect people to start lining up 30 minutes early and at 7 you could wait as long as 90 minutes here, and he has a 30 minute commute, so if he got there at 7 he would likely be late for work but hes going to get there at 6:30 and hope hes at work on time, but his boss said he could be a little late, because he is a nice boss.

Last time I posted a few links with more information about each states laws on letting people off for voting, but I guess I wasn't supposed to do that, so just do a search for something like: "state laws" "voting" "time off" you will find several sites that list each state and what their law is regarding it.

OMG lol all of you looked SOOO good in your costumes and ROB looked funny in his peter pan costume lol it looks cute on him hehe i loved all ur costumes KIM they were all HOT on u then again u always look HOT :D...me and my friends went to hollywood OMGoodness it was PACKED in hollywood traffic and even the side walks were traffic lol but i had lot of fun! looks like u did too :)

It is probably someone just trying to bring you down and don't worry about it---you are so gracious and lovely that I just laughed when I read what they said. Look at all you do for your fans: you blog daily, post pictures, let us in on your life from this website and your show. For a fan to call you out like that is truly disappointing and me being a fan, it upsets me to see people bringing someone down that I admire. You just don't seem to have it in your personality to be a negative, unfriendly person. You are always so positive in your posts (especially when you unexpectedly had to spend your birthday in the hospital with Reggie).

Thanks Anon but I really can't take all the credit. I own a steel manufacturing company. It was owned by my father for 27 years and I bought it from him two years ago. I had to go to college for a civil engineering degree before he sold it to me though. The company was already very well established before I bought it. I am very lucky.

There is absentee ballots and other ways to vote. There are just some younger people, perhaps voting for the first time who aren't aware of their rights or the law. Some people don't know the options they have, or some actually like to go to the polls and do it. I just know most people aren't aware that legally, their employer has to give them time off, like extra time on their lunch to vote.

But what if you're a nurse and there is no one to watch your patients for you while you stand in line for 5 hours to vote? Im sure the nurse couldn't just up and leave like that. Actually can't people just vote through that "absentee vote" thingy? I'm canadian by the way but im fascinated with your presidential race !!!

lol reggies mafioso mask is so creepy but funny, yo mom look adorable & i love youi flapper outfit! i was a 50's diner girl & my husband was a jester, we went bowling with friends & gave out candy, i usually dont celebrate halloween but it was fun, cant wait til thanksgiving!
