This poll has been up for a couple of years now and the reason that it will never have more YES votes than NO's is because the Turks from Turkey have voted many times over and over, and with a country of more than 70 million vs. Armenia with less than 3 + the Diaspora ~7 million will never be able to tilt the results.

This poll is actually pointless because the International Scholars of Genocide have determined that in fact it was a Genocide.

Why don't the Armenians unlock their archives to the public if they want the genocide to be recognized? Makes no sense to demand that everyone accept it when they refuse to allow anyone to actually go through the evidence for it.

My family died in Russia when the whole St. Petersburg was blocked off without any means to get food. Millions of people died from starvation and the cold. I absolutely understand how frustrating it is when such an act as demolishing millions of people just because they live in a certain region or because they are a certain race, is not recognized as genocide. I of course voted YES, in hope that one day people realize that genocide doesn't only happen to Jewish people.

To Anonymous above: The term Genocide was invented by a Jewish scholar to describe what happened to the Armenians. The very authentic definition of the word "genocide" is THE Armenian Genocide. Secondly, the Armenians DID NOT support the Nazis. In fact, Armenians were also rounded up by the Nazis during the Holocaust (in much smaller numbers) and there are Armenians who have received metals of honor for helping rescue Jews. In fact, Hitler "imported" Turkish generals who had assisted in the Armenian genocide, and modeled the Holocaust after the way Turks had commited the genocide against the Armenians (as documented by Churchill). ANd the famous quote/excuse of Hitler's is "Who after all remembers what happened to the Armenians." Because the world basically ignored the Armenian genocide and turned a blind eye, Hitler thought the world would do the same as he exterminated the Jews, which for the most part was sadly true.

Perhaps people's reservations to apply the term "genocide" to what happened to the Armenians has to do with the definition of the term itself.

And all the people who voted no, either don't know-which means they shouldn't have voted at all because of lack of education, their ancestors have never been affected by slavery, genocide, and other horrible acts, or they have some personal reasons.

Sooo just because your grandfather was there means it didn't happen? My grandparents along with many other family member were also all alive during this era and IN ARMENIA. Unfortunetly, only 2 family members made it out ALIVE to tell the world what really happened. My grandma's brother having his head cut off in front of his mother and sisters just because he SPOKE Armenian...did your grandfather see that part too? As a member of the Chickasaw Nation, I've been pushing for the US to recognize the killing and rappings of my ancestors as a genocide, but I don't think it will ever happen. This is media and history for you it has been done to everyone from the Native Americans, The Mayans, the slaves etc. The horrific truths are always buried somewhere in hopes that everyone will forget and move on. She was only 5years old! She also saw the body of her uncle a few days after he was killed thrown next to a river. I've heard stories of how all the Armenians in her and neighboring towns were asked to leave the town and were sent to the Syrian desert. How terrified they were. How Turks got rid of the men first so it would be easier to push the rest out of their homes. Now for someone to say my grandfather was there and didn't see anything, where was your grandfather when all this was happening is what I want to know!!

It has left millions of Armenians haunted by the tragic memories of the brutal massacares of 1.5 million Armenians. I am so happy that you have blogged about this on your site. i definately voted yes. Hey Kim..again! So this blog got me thinking...you should definitely campaign for this topic. You are definitely well known world-wide, and should take advatage of that. Being Armenian, the Darfur genocide should really concern you since genocide is part of your family history. I encourage everyone to learn about Darfur and how you can help. As a celebrity, you have the media to help you raise awareness about issues and since you are concerned about the Armenian genocide, I think there's a lot you could do to help the Darfur cause also while something can still be done.

Many schools here in the USA do not cover the Armenian Genocide as much as they should. For all those who DONT know, Hitler got most of his ideas from the leader of the Turks, who organized the Genocide of the Armenians. So think about it, if the Armenian Genocide did not occur, then the Holocaust could have not occured either. I am Armenian and part Russian and some of my family did die in the Genocide. The Genocide again happened in the year of 1989 in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan, and my parents and all the other Armenians were forced to leave their home! How could we not recognize such an event?

Kim, I think its your duty to get this issue recognized by EVERYBODY in the Hollywood world as well as all your fans. You are the most recognized Armenian so please do more to get this issue out. People will look up to you the more you speak about this issue. Trust me, you are an amazing person and your beautiful inside and out, you are one of the few people who can help this issue.

I'm not familar with this particular genocide, but I'm def. going to go and see what I can find out about it. I think that some people's views on topics can be so terrible. Just because it has nothing to do with them or their ethnicity they just don't care, and I think that's horrible. Genocide is a horrible thing, and I think that the United States should respect the Armenian people and the what happened to them. The more instances of genocide that are brought to the surface and people know about, the better, because then we can use those instances and stop genocide from occurring again. Even though it's happening right now in Darfur and people could careless. Which is terrible, but sadly thats the world we live in today.

kim i am so touched that you would post something like this, i live near DC and i remember a couple of years ago they were thinking about building an Armenian Genocide museum, like the Jewish holocaust museum, but Bush didn't pass it. It is no longer allowed to be taught in schools and frankly not many people have a clue about it, its so sad but so true.

I had to vote "I'm Not Sure" because, before reading your post, I had no idea about this issue. I am glad you spoke about it and shed some light on it. I will definitely look into it now. Just like when I learned in high school about how the Japanese were treated by the US during WWII (I think that was the war??) Anyway, I think a possible reason why so many people are voting "NO" is because of this statement:

Anything having to do with the war is a sensitive subject and by MSNBC using that phrase, people are more likely to say NO because the first thing we think is...."Turkey is going to turn on us and our troops will be in even more danger!" And it's not a very valid reason for someone to choose that answer just because of the current war. So after the war..then maybe it will be okay to say "Yes, it was a genocide."??? Makes no sense.

I'm Armenian too and, although I was born and raised in America, I've made it a point to become educated about the genocide. I can't even put my mind around the amount of hatred involved behind this massacre, and now the denial. I definitely think it's important for others to be aware and educated, and the US most definitely should recognize this as a genocide. I read your posts daily but don't often leave a comment. I am Armenian but now live in Australia – I only check your posts because you have the same features as me so I like to see what your wearing hair and make-up etc.

I am impressed that you brought this very important issue to the attention of your fans. The reality of the Genocide is overlooked by so many government bodies worldwide.

What happened to our ancestors is tragic on so many levels and hits home because many of the survivors of the Genocide are still around today. My great grandfather was killed in the Genocide, my family has grown so much because of orphans that my ancestors took in and raised as their own. I’m 23 and came to Australia when I was 5. I still remember armed soldiers walking us to and from kinder – this is just an example of how many people were and still effected so many years on.

I just want to get out there that the push to recognize the event as a genocide by no means is anything against the Turkish people. I’ve got many Turkish friends and love traveling in Istanbul but it important to formalize such blatant attempts to cause mass harm on a group of people purely because they are Armenian.

I think it has a lot to do with "lack of education". Being part Armenian like yourself, I was taught about the genocide at an early age, but I'm not sure others are aware of the severity and importance of it.

I think this is outrageous and also think there is a major flaw in the design of this poll. I dont think that they should have written that Turkey is way too important to the U.S. as an ally during war as an explanation for why someone would vote no. The war right now, or turkey as an ally has nothing to do with the facts about whether something happened or not. In this case, something that definately did happen. You cannot deny the truth!!

i'm Cambodian and we also had a genocide called the Khmer Rouge about 30 years ago or so. but i don't know if as many people were killed as in the Armenian genocide. but...i voted yes on this =)

He was valedictorian of his class. Anyways genocide is one of the most horrendous acts that happens all over the world. That's terrible! I have many Armenian friends (including 1 Armenian cousin) and I am very much familiar with the topic of Armenian Genocide. The people who voted are probably the Turkish people, anyways, so it doesn't matter.

Obama promised that once he is in office he will push this issue and make sure that the Armenian Genocide bill passes. Lets hope! :)
