As many of you know, this is an issue near and dear to my heart...

I firmly believe the U.S. should officially recognize the horrific and historical atrocity of the Armenian Genocide, also known as the "Great Calamity."

For those of you who don't know about it: More than a million Armenian people were marched to their death during World War I and beyond. I know, the number is so staggering, I cannot even fathom it.

Right now MSNBC has posted a poll on the matter and I cannot believe how many people have voted "no." I'm left to wonder if people are really aware of the gravity of the situation.

I voted “yes” and would appreciate it if you felt it in your heard to vote “yes” too.

i am armenian and i absolutely agree and i have voted yes

WOW! So sad! I am glad you brought it up, I am going to go google and educate myself about it this evening!
xoxo

i'm Cambodian and we also had a genocide called the Khmer Rouge about 30 years ago or so. but i don't know if as many people were killed as in the Armenian genocide. but...i voted yes on this =)

I voted yes, too. I don't understand how people could overlook such a thing.

i was not aware of this armenian genocide kim. i just read about it and its just amazing to me how unkind, inhumane, and brutal people can be. i am majoring in criminal justice and every time i hear about situations like this ir brutal happenings, its like they just light me up in fire inside.
this event youre talking about was very brutal to walk these people to their death, with no food, abuse, its plain disturbing.
i am mexican and love people of all nationalities. i would love to vote "yes" with you kim. all my support goes to the armenians.
I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO LOOK IN TO THE HISTORY OF THIS EVENT AND REALIZE THAT "YES" IS THE WAY TO VOTE.
LETS GIVE OUR SUPPORT.

It is so aweful that people don't recognize genocide of any kind. I also voted yes.

Kim,
I'm going to vote yes. Also I was wondering if you heard of that boy from Fresno that is Armenian who was being threatened to be deported back to Armenia because his parents entered here on a visa that was long expired. He was valedictorian of his class. Anyways genocide is one of the most horrendous acts that happens all over the world. I did a research report on Darfur and would appreciate if you looked into what is going on there.

wow. i can't believe people can be so mean. i have had many Armenian friends and they are so very dear. good luck and i will vote yes. My family is from El Salvador and we were torn by the war. I wish all those people who lost loved ones during that time can find some type of comfort. You really never get over loosing loved ones no matter how long ago it was. My grandfather was murdered 27 years ago and we can never forget how we lost him. Love you kim...

Kim
thank you for posting this blog! I am not very familiar with this but I think it is good to learn more about it and be able to raise awareness on such a horrible thing like genocide.

xoxo

That's terrible! I have many Armenian friends (including 1 Armenian cousin) and I am very much familiar with the topic of Armenian Genocide. The people who voted are probably the Turkish people, anyways, so it doesn't matter.

Obama promised that once he is in office he will push this issue and make sure that the Armenian Genocide bill passes. Lets hope! :)

Thanks for posting, Kim! You should really help the Armenian cause more often!

first off sorry i wont be able to remember the people's names but for the person who said that Kim shouldn't use her celebrity to push through a cause. well all i am going to say if the Turkish government can bribe US politicians and the Turkish government can lobby against the Armenian Genocide then Kim Kardashian can use her celebrity as means to telling the truth and letting more people know the truth. As an american she has every right to do what she wants this isn't Turkey where if you mention one word of the Armenian genocide you can get arrested or in Turkish/Amrenian journalist Hrant Dink's case shot and killed by a Turkish Nationalist.

secondly, for those who voted NO because oh this happened so long ago why/how does it effect us. well maybe just maybe if Turkey was punished properly all these other nations might of thought twice. if the world did not take a blind eye to what happened to the Armenians maybe other nations would not of gone through with their own mass killings and genocides. even Hitler thought he would be able to get away with it cause of the fact the Turks got away with it. remember Germany was allies with Turkey during WWI and knew exactly what happened to the Armenians. and yes Germany now recognizes the genocide. just think about that. think about Hitler's quote: "Who after all today remembers the annihilation of the Armenians" well its almost as if every country who has commited a genocide since whether it was the Cambodian Genocide, or Rwanda, or Bosnia, or what is happening now in the Sudan it almost as if their leaders have stood up with their chest held high and said "Well who remembers the Armenians" -- I Remember the Armenians. and I will never forget.

Well saying lets not recognize the Armenian Genocide is like saying lets not recognize the Jewish Holocaust, its the same.

I think Kim is brave to blog about this, but she must be getting tons of hatemail and threats from Turks.

Kim is a strong and beautiful lady, you're Dad would be proud of you.

You should read "Forgotten Fire" its about an Armenian Genocide survivor-great book

Hey Kim, I went to the L.A auto show and I didn't get to see you on the Armenian Teleathon, my mom told me she saw you on it, and I wanted to know if you were donating money, if yes how much?
BTW THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE WAS A FACT, ASK 95%+ HISTORIANS OR ASK THE CREATOR OF THE WORD GENOCIDE, RAPHAEL LEMKIN

Good point Chris..

Why doesn't anyone complain about MSNBC posting this poll anyway?! It should not be tolerated!!!
