I agree with a lot of what Janae is saying. I am a Native American/Spanish woman. I was raised by my best friends family, who are black and my fiance is black. As weird as it may sound, I REFUSE to date a black man that does not date black women. Those black men are usually weirdos, and in my experience, they usually don't like me because they say I have a "black woman's attitude." That may be because I was raised by black women, but it doesn't really matter. I'm a strong woman, period. The women who raised me are strong black women. I know PLENTY of weak black women just as I know plenty of weak white women or any other color. PEOPLE are different. I don't care what color you are, black, white, blue, green or purple. There are strong women and weak women of every kind. If a black DOES NOT date black women, what they are really sayin is I don't date strong women. And if they only date white women, they're really sayin, I only date weak women. But then they meet a strong white woman, and they say, "you got a black women's attitude." It's all ridiculous. I am a black female who believes that love can exist between any two people who are willing to respect each other and see each other as human beings. It appears to me that Kim and Reggie sincerely care for each other, and I wish them the best. That being said, as a black female I understand the feelings and experiences that black women face socially. I myself date interracially and have done so for a long time. I am currently in a STRONG love relationship with an Asian male who has been there for me through thick and thin. In all honesty, I have received more support from non-black men, particularly Asian, than I ever have from a black male. I am an educated, attractive woman who is currently preparing to become a physician. Those things being said, I can understand the feelings/opinions from a variety of people on the issue. People can and SHOULD be able to love whomever they want. But, black men DO need to value the women from their own community more. However, I feel that if a black man (or any other man for that matter) cannot love, appreciate, or honor me as I am, I am better off WITHOUT him. If a black male wants to have a relationship with a non-black woman, a black woman cannot benefit from being involved with him. She is black (AS HE IS), and if he rejects her for her identity, it can only have a negative impact on her self image to be involved with him. I personally believe that black women need to pursue relationships with larger variety of men. There are good men/people of ALL RACES, so there's no need to restrict yourself to just one. However, black women face more social opposition when it comes to being involved in an interracial relationship. I know from personal experience, that many non-black women who LOVE to date black men, have a problem when they see a man of their own ethnicity dating/in love with a black woman. I am TIRED of the hypocrisy and double standards. I would like to see more people who support interracial dating speak up in support of the value of black women and THEIR viability as romantic partners. It's not just nonblack women who are special, beautiful, and worthy of love. Black women are ALSO special, beautiful, and worthy of love. That fact seems to get lost in the discussion, many times. Personally, I support TRUE LOVE, and I want people to be HAPPY. Knowing and having personal relationships people of different backgrounds has added WONDERFUL dimensions to my life experiences. I cannot imagine living life without my friends and my love. Race has no impact on how I care for them. All in all, I support Kim and Reggie. I don't blame Reggie for liking Kim. She IS beautiful and seems to be a very kind and good person. However, she is not BETTER than black females. So many times, comments seem to suggest that the nonblack females are "better" choices. I usually don't post here but I feel that I had to post my opinion after seeing some of the comments about Kim and Reggie and race. First of all I am a white woman who is married to a successful black man. I have to say that I am sooooo tired of hearing black women complain when a successful black man is with a white woman, and calling us hoes because he chooses to be with us. Being and interracial couple has never been an issue for us because I fell in love with my husband for who he is as a person and he fell in love with me for who I am. We do live in the South so yes that does bring some discrimination, but we could care less about what small minded people think. It says in the bible(and in Martin Luther King's speech) that we are to be judged by the content of our character not the color of our skin. If a white woman dates a black man we are hoes and we are stealing YOUR black men, but if we say we don't date black men then we are racist. First of all black men do not belong to black women. Black men are just like the rest of us, part of the human race and therefore free to date whoever they want. So get over it!!!
