Christina,
I know it must be hard having your body go through those changes of having a baby. You need to surround yourself with friends and people who workout. That will motivate you!
I have my sisters and family who love that lifestyle, which motivates me. I love workout classes, which force you to be around lots of people. But if you don't have time like me, you can easily workout at home. And I did make my workout DVD to suit the needs of busy people. Check it out!
I know you can turn it around,
Kim

You guys crack me up. Kim I know you have a workout video online that we can download... I saw on E! like a year ago when u made it!
I recently had a baby and I feel like crap. I was wondering if you or your mom had some tips on how to get confidence. I use to feel pretty but not anymore. I try to exercise but I get discouraged.
Maybe if you or your sis had time to talk about health and how to get healthy it would make it easier to have faith that someone cares and believes that heavier people can change and be as pretty as u guys r.

For Nina:
This may be hard, but don’t wear makeup. Curl your lashes, wear mascara and under-eye concealer and lip-gloss or balm, but nothing anywhere else so your skin can breathe. It is also essential that you keep your skin hydrated (use moisturizer all the time and drink WATER!)
You are getting acne because of your hormones, because of your diet, and because your pores are clogged. Fix your diet (eat foods that are as close to their natural state as possible, no chips or junk foods, and have water all the time so your body can get rid of all the impurities that directly cause acne). For your face, wash it with something that removes makeup, dirt and oil. After that, use a medicated gentle scrub, an acne treatment, and then a moisturizer. I am very surprised that Proactiv didn’t work for you. I did also find that it decreased effectiveness at times, but after I was more thorough and pressed the products into my skin more, it did everything it promised.
Here is my routine that has left me acne free for years:
*Olay Moisture Balancing foaming facewash- to rinse off makeup at night
*Proactive scrub- morning and night
*Clinique All About Eyes Rich- morning and night
*Proactiv toner- morning and night
*Proactiv Daily Oil Control- morning (let it dry completely)
*Proactiv Repairing Lotion- morning and night
*Olay Complete All Day Moisture Lotion SPF 15 for combination/oily skin- morning (it has oil absorbers!)
*Olay Age Defying Intensive Nourishing Night Cream- night (helps with cell turnover)
*Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal mask- A MIRACLE! This may fix your problem more than anything else. Spot on fresh zits as long as you have them while you sleep and on your full face once a week after facewash and scrub.
If none of this works after two months of following it faithfully you could go one step further and check on your hormones by getting a blood test at your doctor’s to see where the imbalance is occurring. They may recommend taking birth control pills, but believe me; those do nothing to address imbalances. They only give you more of everything and as a result the imbalance remains. The most efficient is to apply a *bio-identical* hormone cream to your body in different places so the areas don’t become saturated and less absorbent. It may be difficult to find a pharmacy that provides *bio-identical* cream because it is a natural product and the high-falootin’ pharmaceutical companies can’t slap their name on them. But as a result it is cheap, as things should be. Do some research to see if this is a direction for you when the time comes.
For Lee:
In order to lose mass in certain areas, it's good to wear sweat suits (like those plain old Champion cotton ones) in order to make your temperature hotter, make you sweat more, and therefore lose more of the water weight in that area. The best workout is really walking for 30 minutes once a day every day, twice morning and evening if you can, while moving your arms back and forth. Also be sure to squeeze your butt cheeks to get the most out of them. Calisthenics (squats, calf raises; exercises using your body weight) are an easy way to build muscle, which burn fat and calories like nothing else. Eventually when you plateau (stop losing weight) you will have to challenge yourself more and walk faster and uphill. There's an option for that on treadmills if you have one available, or you could go up and down your stairs a bunch of times. Don't stay in your wet clothes more than 45 minutes because sweating is a cooling process and decreases the energy being burned. Drink plenty of water all throughout and shower as soon as you can to clean off what your pores have sweat out. Be sure to wash your sweat suit after every workout.

Hey Lee, you should try Jillian Michaels 30 minute Shred...its and awesome ab workout...and she does start out for beginners...Its great...its not easy at first...but when you finally do it, it feels awesome...it really does. Don't buy it...google it online first they have a snippet..and see if its something you are interested in. I hope I didn't sound discouraging about its not easy at first..i'm talking about me...after 7 years of doing nothing...and gaining weight...I was able to do it but boy was I sweating and I felt great afterward...not to sound like a broke record but..if I can do it...anyone can, and that's for sure. Good luck.

Stregth training is really important because it builds muscle and muscle burns fat (See Jorge Cruise's book, 8 Minutes in the Morning). The challenge I have is squeezing it into my schedule!! It's so easy to let it slip. I would like to make health a higher priority, but stuggle with time.
There were some great health tips posted on this site. Thanks! :)

GOOD ADVICE JENNY. KIM THATS THE WAY YOU SHOULD HAVE ANSWERED CHRISTINA'S QUESTION? NOT PUSHING THAT DVD THAT YOU ARE SO NOT IN ANY FORM OF GOOD SHAPE YOU LOOK LIKE THE AVERAGE WOMEN WALKING AROUND WHO DOESN'T EVEN WORKOUT. CALIFORNIA THERE ARE TONS OF BEAUTIFUL WOMEN WHO REALLY HAVE KICK ASS BODIES AND BLOW YOU RIGHT OUT OF THE WATER. TRY TO BE HUMBLE AND PEOPLE WILL LIKE YOU MORE. REALLY KEEP CAROLINE D'AMORE AS A FRIEND MAYBE YOU WILL LEARN A THING OR TWO. THERE IS MORE TO LIFE BESIDES MAKEUP AND CLOTHES. DO CHARITY WORK, VOLUNTEER AT A CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, GO HELP OUT IN A BAD AREA IN CALIFORNIA MUST BE TONS OF PEOPLE IN NEED OUT THERE.

I agree with Sheba...tea tree oil is a great product, from the body shop. Also...good advice from all on weight loss...I feel surrounded by such smart, informed ladies and gents tonite. Treadmill-awesome YES!! Portion control- BIG DEAL!! And please don't judge your weight loss success by the scale only...yes I do still weigh myself...can't help it i've lost a lot of lbs and i love to see that scale go down...its gone up a couple times...thats when its discouraging..however...I know my body is now starting to create muscle...so i'm a bit of a hypocrit...but just so long as you don't use the scale solely to judge your success. And good luck to all on weight loss. And especially to new moms...I had twins 7 years ago (this sat they will be 7), and just this year I lost the weight...something finally clicked and made sense. Again...goodl luck!!!

Try veggie burgers (like the Boca burgers) they are great! My friends who have recently started dieting have started eating them & they love them & they are filling along with being healthy. They even taste great! I've been a vegetarian for years & it has helped me stay in shape & feel great! It also helps keep your cholesteral down! Also, try eating egg whites not the whole egg (get egg beaters)try eating wheat bread not white & in between meals if youre hungry try a protein shake or a fruit cup or veggies. Try some fun workout videos or just walk more often, it will all pay off!

ohhh... and portion control is a biggie! Watch how much you eat of something... cutting down your meals into smaller meals throughout the day helped me soooo much! It actually helps boost your metabolism, gives you more energy and essentially helps you burn more calories throughout the day!
Hope this helped!

Secret is NOT to overdue it at first. Take it slowly. Eat in moderation. Drink plenty water. Start on treadmill 1mile in mourning. I started doing 1 mile in the mourning .It took me sooo long. And I was never obese, but overweight from having babies. Then I added 1 mile in the afternoon as well. Before I knew it .I was up to 4 miles running and walking in the mourning,,and 3 miles at night. Then I SLOWLY added my cardio exercises into that. And before i could see it my clothes was falling off of me. Please have more money to buy more clothes. I had to go buy a new wardrobe. Go slowly don't burn yourself out before you have a chance. Thats the secret to weightloss. Invest in a good treadmill.Sears has some nice ones and reasonable too. Its a good investment.

Hey Kim,
Weight loss is always a touchy topic. First, I agree with Katrina; Dont compar yourself to celebrities. They have different lifestlyes than we do. They can afford the chef, the special food, they can go to the gym for 2 hours. For us to have to work 9 to 5 and take care of home, kids, husband is different. Try to start off by eating better. Cut down on high carb foods and starchy foods like rice, bread, pasta. Incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet and drink plenty of water. Satrt off by walking everyday....joggin is a great way to lose weight as some ppl here have already stated. As for me, I did kickboxing and boxing for 2 1/2 months and I lost 15 lbs. You have to be committed. Surround yourself with positive ppl and preferably ppl who want to get in shape as well. It defintely helps in the movitation area!

Eat sensible and exercise. Water is a great replenisher and it detoxifies you. losing weight is just good ole common sense habit to get yourself use to. Its OK to spulge now and then but remember diet and exercise is the key. And by all means treadmills are the best way to loose it.
Katrina says: | Reply
I agree with what Jenny said (although it was A LOT). A complete life style change is necessary after you have a child. It's hard, but you just have to stay consistent.
Also, don't compare yourself to celebrities. Some of them have extremely unhealthy and unorthodox methods of loosing weight.

Another tip for Nina:
Vitamin E oil can help with scars.
Also, drink lots of water to help cleanse your body. Maybe some cleansing herbs to detoxify from the inside.
Good luck :)

Here's a tip for Nina:
Try the Tea Tree Oil Foaming Face Wash (for oily/blemished skin) from Body Shop. I've had good results using it. I hope you will, too.

Kim,
For the past two years I've had horrible skin. I'm dealing with so much acne its crazy...and when there's no acne, there are tons of scars. My dermatologist recommended proactiv and differin and they both do not help whatsoever. I've tried so much, I've lost count. None of them worked, these include: Neutrogena Acne Stress Relief Face Wash, AcneFree, Clean & Clear, Clearasil, etc.
Do you have any advice, and what do you use on your skin because you have absolutely perfect skin! :) Thanks soo much!!

hey kim.
iv gained so much weight over the last 2 years. im very excited that you have a workout DVD, cant wait to oder it and start working out,and change my lifestyle for the better. You rock
Jenny says: | Reply
If you’re a new mom, you obviously have more important things to attend to than a “work out.” So don’t. You’re too tired and getting more than enough exercise already, especially if you’re breast feeding. Just eat. You will have to make the changes when you go to the grocery store.
No “snack foods.” All whole wheat or whole grain only!
Eat foods that are as fresh and as close to their natural state as possible: non-artificial hormone skim milk; 3 or more bottles of water per day; baby carrots and all other vegetables but corn and white potatoes, even buy various plain frozen veggie mixes to make it easier; brown rice (1 cup rice gets 3 cups water in rice cooker or 2 ½ cups water in covered pot, check on it and stir at two occasions) with Smart Balance buttery spread; fresh berries, peaches, apples, bananas, grapes, pears, pineapple (stay away from other citrus foods); fish, like tilapia, salmon, or catfish cooked in olive oil, jarred Polaner crushed garlic, and salt & pepper to your taste, mush it all together then (microwave covered for 4 minutes and then broil on high until lightly browned on top) or (bake at 375° for 15-25 minutes); very lean pork and chicken; natural LOWFAT fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt; 98% fat free turkey lunchmeat with French’s mustard and 100% whole wheat wonder bread; buy pre-washed packages of Romaine, Red- and Greenleaf lettuces; fat free hidden valley ranch or balsamic vinaigrette dressing is always good; Quaker 1-minute oatmeal with cut up strawberries, bananas, raisins (no sugar cuz you get plenty from the fruit) made with water for fewer calories, I am personally fond of Grape Nuts Flakes with a cut up banana—very filling. If you like eggs, don’t have them more than twice a week in order to keep your cholesterol low, so cook them with Smart Balance, maybe scrambled or omelets (put lid on while they cook) with sautéed veggies (cook veggies in skillet, then set aside on plate while you cook eggs and put in half way through) and a little goat cheese.
The key to eating better is to have small potions of large variety of foods at all of your 3 meals and not a lot of one, even salad. Not to sound ignorant, but that IS why Japanese people are so skinny. For example, have fish, rice, and a salad or some of those delicious frozen veggies with Smart Balance and a cup of milk or water. For your 3 in-between meals keep it leaner: have an apple and 9 baby carrots, or a banana, or a Luna Bar with a bottle of water. Eat every 2 ½ hours, meal-snack-meal-snack-meal-snack-bedtime. Don’t buy anything in a box unless it’s Grape Nuts or caffeine-free tea that you are going to have unsweetened.
When you’ve got some time, by all means, sleep. If you want to work out during this precious spare moment, take a brisk walk with the stroller for half an hour, but if you change your diet, it is not necessary in order to see results. Keep in mind that this is a lifestyle change, as important as quitting smoking, and you will only reap the benefits.
Good Luck!

Anyone who needs to loose weight should have an treadmill . Its the ultimate weight loss machine. Just start off walking 1 mile and slowly increase your speed, incline and distance and you will be skinny. Just try walking 1 mile in the mourning and 1 in the afternoon. And eat in moderation and YOU will lose weight. I dropped 30lbs in a matter of weeks. The fat just melts away. Try it,it works. You just have to force yourself for the first week than you want to exercise.

Hey ladies...who want to drop weight fast...inches and all that. Try this diet and excercise plan...its CKD...just google Ketogenic diet..you will be amazed at what you can eat. I have recently lost 65 lbs...10 more to go to my personal goal. Its high fat (good fat) and low carb...very low..but if I can do it ANYONE CAN...and I wish i had before and after pics to post but I don't. Don't know why this works, but basically its Sunday-Friday...dieting and weekends off basically, because you will need to CARB UP for 30 hrs...yes..no joke. just google it...read it (lots to read) and give it a chance. And I hope to hear back from you in a couple weeks with an update. Good luck...oh and don't forget to excercise..it all goes together. OH and Kim rocks!!
